Story
Hi there!
Wear It Purple is a cause near and dear to my heart. As an adult, it is relatively easy for me to say that I am part of the LGBTQIA+ community, but I have seen firsthand how hard it can be as a Rainbow teenager. My sister came out as Transgender and Queer when she was 15 years old. While most of our family was incredibly supportive, there were some friends and family that weren't accepting, and I saw how hard that was for her - how deep their words cut and how this still impacts her many years later.
Even now as an adult herself, she is scared to present as her true self when out in public in case she is “h@te-crimed” (her words), which absolutely breaks my heart.
She is the reason why I support this cause. Wear it Purple was established to show young people across the globe that there was hope, that there are people who support and accept them, and that they have the right to be proud of who they are and don’t have to be afraid to present as their true selves when walking around their neighbourhood, attending the workplace or socialising with friends.

Since joining A&G I’ve done my absolute best to be someone the queer community could look up to with my openness and confidence in my own identity. I put my pronouns in my signature and on my LinkedIn profile over a year ago, and it makes me so incredibly happy to see more people within the company adopting this simple, but so incredibly meaningful gesture. I've championed this fundraising initiative each year since 2019.

Wear it Purple Incorporated
Wear It Purple is an Australian charity founded in 2010 to support LGBTQIA+ young people and create safe, empowering environments where they feel seen, respected and celebrated.
Our purpose is to foster supportive, safe and inclusive spaces for LGBTQIA+ young people at school, at home, online and in their communities. Our vision is for all LGBTQIA+ young people to thrive, to feel a sense of belonging, to access safe communities, and to be free from discrimination.
Research continues to show that LGBTQIA+ young people face significantly higher rates of bullying, exclusion and mental health challenges. Still, we also know that acceptance, visibility and community support dramatically improve wellbeing and reduce risk. Wear It Purple Day is held on the last Friday in August each year. It is a national movement of schools, community groups, workplaces and families coming together to show LGBTQIA+ young people that they are loved, valued and supported for who they are.
