Story
Hi there!
Drinking water supply for the Wayuu population in La Guajira is scarce and comes from multiple sources, such as dysfunctional borehole wells, shallow hand dug wells, natural rainwater ponds and drilled deep wells with windmill pumps. This water is used for human consumption, domestic livestock and crops thus creating high competition for water resources in the area.
These systems do not include water treatment and the source, or if they do, in the case of micro aqueducts, none are functional.
YVWayuu is a team of volunteers at Yarra Valley Water, whose team challenge is to design a supply chain and market strategy for household water treatment and safe home storage techniques that could be successfully implemented into the Wayuu Community.
The Run Melbourne with YVWayuu team will get together to raise funds for the implementation of the design, in support of YVWayuu.
Donations made through this platform are secure and will be remitted directly through to WaterAID.
